Ton Choi with pickled tofu
Let me introduce this Chinese vegetable called Ton Choi and Pickled tofu (Fermented Bean curd).
This vegetable is very popular for Chinese and cooked with pickled tofu.
Pickled tofu also called “tofu cheese” , preserved tofu, or fermented tofu, is a form of processed, preserved tofu used in Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine.
Many Asians can’t drink milk or dairy foods because lactose makes them ill. I am one of them even I love dairy food.
This recipe is good for me to get protain without dairy food and taste like cheese.
Some people does not like smell of this pickles, but once you like this, you cannot stop eating…
I have never had traditional Chinese style of cooking. My husband explained to me how this look like and taste like and I created this dish with my imagination.

Fermented Tofu or Picked Tofu also called Chinese Cheese. It has very strong smell and taste, but if you like this, you addict to it |
ingredients (serves 3-4)
- 1 lb Ton Choi
- Salt, and oil such as canola
- 3 cloves garlic crused and minced
- red pepper minced
- A
- 3 picked tofu
- 1 table spoon sesame oil
- 1 1/2 tablespoon Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
- 1-2 tablespoon sugar (maple syrop)
- salt to adjust taste

- Wash the tong choi and drain. Cut off 2inches from the bottom of the stem, which tends to be tough. Cut the rest of the ton choi into 4inch long.
- Mix all ingredients A
- Heat a wok or big deeo pot and add warter. After the water has boiled, add oil, pinch of salt, and tong choi. (add stem part first and leave later as the stems take longer to cook.) Do not cook too much just 1-2 minited enough to cook because they should be crunchy !! Strain and dish out
- In a sauce pan, add sesami oil and minced garlic, hot pepper and saute. Add Ingredients A until boil. Place sauce on the top of tong choi
